Service Teams

A ServiceTeam Experience is a unique opportunity for school, church, family and community groups to join together in a powerful service and learning orientated opportunity.   Often defined by people of all faiths as one of the most enjoyable and also emotionally moving experiences they have ever taken part in, the main three goals of a GOD'S CHILD Project-promoted ServiceTeam Experience are:

  •

    A ServiceTeam is a group of volunteers who form together, travel to Guatemala, and work with the project in a defined custom-designed program.  A typical ServiceTeam Experience is usually two weeks, although they have been as long as a month and as short as 10 days.  There are three stages to a ServiceTeam Experience, these being:

    to get to know oneself better through individual and group growth;

    to learn more about how our 3rd world brothers and sisters (85% of the world's population) live, by working side-by-side with participants of the Asociacion Nuestros Ahijados charity in closely supervised home, clinic, and school-building projects;

    to better understand one's relationship with God and how that is reflected in our day-to-day living.
  •

    The children and families served by The GOD'S CHILD Project, La Asociacion Nuestros Ahijados, and our other partner charities, usually live in the worst slums imaginable. If they even have a home, they are made of very simple throw-away materials such as branches, cardboard, and scrap tin.

    During the rainy season, these houses are often washed away by the mud that flows down from the surrounding ravines.  When this happens, the family loses not only their home, but also any belongings they may have collected.  They are also at risk of losing a young child's life.

    ServiceTeams are forming right now.  Come and join us...

    I will open in a new window

    Pre-Travel: during which the future ServiceTeam group works closely with volunteers and staff in the Bismarck, ND (USA)-based GOD'S CHILD Project to organize, sign-up participants, promote their activity locally, fundraise, collect donations, prepare, and pack;

    In Guatemala: the period during which the ServiceTeam is in Guatemala living with local families, working with the poor, building homes and clinics, and participating in cultural and group-forming activities;

    Closure and Return: a time for group members to reflect and prepare to return home, travel,  discover what they have learned, and see how they can share their experience with others.
